Aquarium Party – Lent Term
One of the biggest social events of the year, the Aquarium Party is a massive 500+ person throwdown in an underground sea chamber. You’re completely surrounded by sharks, eels, and rays, which look even more impressive after a few vodka-cranberrys.
Annual Fund
Take advantage of LSE’s budget for sponsoring student-led endeavors. Want to plant a roof garden above Old Building? Take a field trip to Paris? Form a special help center? Apply either as an individual or a group in the spring and put your tuition dollars to good use.
Student Group Gala
Nothing is more fun than dancing with your friends in an enormous ballroom. Several student groups host various balls throughout the year. Some notable ones are by the IR club, Grimshaw, and the law society.
Public Lectures
Perhaps the greatest resource LSE students have are the wealth of knowledge that guest speakers provide. Several times a week, countless politicians, leaders, and corporate megastars pour into classrooms along Houghton Street to share their latest research or work. Listen to US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton or Nobel Laureate Elizabeth Blackburn.
Protest
LSE has a long and respected history of students upholding their personal convictions when outside events threaten the environment, human rights, justice, and individual freedoms. If a local protest catches your eye, feel free to join in!
Boat Party
This deserves an “OMG.” Imagine coasting along the Thames in a 70-foot saloon boat, complete with a dance floor, bar, outdoor areas, and lounges.
Sometimes residence halls, such as Butler’s Wharf, will host a boat party, or otherwise a few student groups will. Don’t miss this great opportunity to catch splendid views of the city while chilling with your friends.
Library Sleep-Over
While I don’t necessarily encourage this, the academic pressures during the school year sometimes requires an all-night study binge. If you find yourself falling behind in your reading or need to write a 10-pager in 24 hours, you might want to think about grabbing a six-pack of Starbucks coffee and a pillow and hunker down
Mexican Party
Another classic lent-term shindig. Rally your buddies for a fun time.
LSE Chill
The LSE Chill is a monthly performance of singers, musicians, and stand-up comedians held in the Old Building. Check it out to to hear talented student entertainers or email the administrator to showcase your own talents.
December Concerts
Towards the end of michaelmas term there are several seasonal concerts being performed around campus, most of which feature classical holiday and religious tunes. One of the more popular ones is hosted by St Clement Danes Cathedral a few minutes from Houghton St.
